Unexplained Behaviors Explained? (8)

Unexplained Behaviors Explained? (8) By Dr. Michael Brooks

We will wrap up the color blue in this article. By now, you have learned a great deal about the blue personality and how important they are to have in your life. Why is it essential to have a blue personality in your life? I believe that they are one of the most enduring colors in the colorcode. They care and are empathetic, and listen well, are energetic, also creative, they love and enjoy closeness in relationships. All in all, they are just good people. Yes, they have their quirks, as we all do. Blues will enrich your life, and trust me, they will bring you a lot of peace and entertainment all at the same time. Blues rarely can tell a joke, and a lot of times, they don’t even get a joke. That will be the entertaining part of a relationship with a blue. I will tell my one blue friend a joke, and they will look at me, trying to figure if the joke was funny!

Here are some of the blues strengths: they are hard workers, always giving of themselves, highly disciplined, very good at deep conversation, very stable and dependable, they have a purpose, emotionally deep, very observant, they love working with children, is a loyal friend, considers spouse first when making decisions, contributes time to relationships, loyal to family, loves building on relationships!

If you’re a blue, these tips are for you: Make sure that those people who are in your family, spouse, work, co-workers, that they know your limits, sometimes blues will say yes, when they should say “NO”. Blues get way over their heads with a yes commitment. So let people know your boundaries and stick with them. This will prevent you from being taken advantage of and overwhelmed.

Don’t stress over your unmet expectations, manage your perfectionism, keep that in check. When dealing with unmet expectations, it’s easy to get overwhelmed, but stay focused and work on one detail at a time. Don’t be demanding and hard on yourself, that’s a waste of energy on your part.

Don’t keep dates, times of every interaction that you have with people. Learn to let go of past issues that you have had with people. There is no reason to keep those files in your head. Some people will upset you in life, but honestly, why give them any space in your mind. Cleanse your mind and get rid of bad memories, bad people, and move on with your life. You, as a blue, enrich so many of us, and we need you in our lives. Learn to let go and enjoy life.

Remember you can’t control every situation, some things are out of your hands. Realize that you can’t control other people, you can’t run other people’s lives. You can’t control what other people do. Can you control your boss at work? No, you can’t. Can you control your neighbor next door? NO, you can’t. Learn to relax and live with your color blue. You guys are amazing!

Next week, we will continue the series on the colorcode on the color white (Life’s peacekeepers).

Unexplained Behaviors Explained? (7)

Unexplained Behaviors Explained? (7)

By Dr. Michael Brooks

This week, we will continue this series on the colorcode with the color blue. Hopefully, you’re starting to see how the colorcode works, each color has it’s pros and cons, and once we get through this series, you’ll understand peoples motives and why they do the things they do, in a good way or bad. I think Taylor Hartman is spot on with the way he sees people. I have used the colorcode when dealing with my clients and their needs. If you want a better marriage, the colorcode will open doors to better communication. If you are having issues at work with a co-worker or boss/management, the colorcode will open doors of understanding. If you hire or lay people off, the colorcode will give you the necessary tools for a better work environment, and better employee hires for the company.

As we continue with the pros and cons for the blues, pay attention to how blues impact personal and business relationships. The deeper we get into the blues and the colorcode, you’ll soon discover the importance of knowing why healthy blues are essential to have in your life.

Blues, no doubt, are self-disciplined. They get things done and make a plan to and stick to it. They love projects, and this will bring out the best in them. I have worked with blues who loved the challenge and made things happen. I didn’t worry one bit; they were dependable. You can count on a healthy blue to get the job done.

One of the negatives about blues is they lean towards being guilt-prone and worry. They worry about everything. It can bog them down at times. In their personal lives, they worry about things that are out of their control. They worry about the kids at school, they worry about the traffic, they worry about their jobs. They are extremely hard on themselves. Most of the things they worry about never happen. It’s a waste of valuable energy, in my humble opinion.

Blues think of others before they think of themselves, they love putting others before themselves, and this brings them great pleasure. They enjoy helping others in need. When blues care about you, they will go the extra mile to make things happen. I have seen very healthy marriages where the wife was a blue and loved serving her family. She was happy to enrich her husband and her kid’s lives. Blue’s are notorious givers of their time and money.

Blues can be self-righteous and insecure at times. One thing you can count on, blues have strong personalities. They are not shy when stating their opinions with others. If they feel safe around you, they will share their deep feelings and ideas. They will, at times, set unrealistic goals, and this causes them to feel guilty caused by their attitudes and unmet expectations.

Next week, we will continue the series on the colorcode.

Unexplained Behaviors Explained? (6) By Dr. Michael Brooks

Unexplained Behaviors Explained? (6) By Dr. Michael Brooks

This week we will look at the colorcode and continue with the color Blue. Blue have their complicated sides too, and we will go over that today. So we know that blues have a wonderful side to them, they’re fun to be around, they are committed to relationships, and passionate about being loyal and honest. We love having that kind of relationship and being in one. Then again, there is an unhealthy side of the Blue as well. So, let’s dig in and explore the other side of the blue personality.

My friend that is blue has a side of her that causes some that know her a lot of grief. She is a perfectionist to the core. When working with her, she has to control projects with perfection. Unfortunately, that can get in the way of demanding projects. It’s simply hard to work with her. She is never really satisfied with her project’s outcome, she’s always making changes, and her team is frustrated with her. She has unreal expectations for herself and her team. She struggles with her idea’s thinking there not good enough. Self-doubt is a big problem for her.

Blues can be highly demanding and, more often than not, are not able to communicate or articulate very well. This causes confusion to those who are in a relationship with a blue. The confusion blues cause has people wondering how do “I talk to a blue?” Blues don’t share their expectations very well, leaving people wondering and searching for answers after meeting with them. Blues will sometimes finish a project because they don’t trust the project to be good enough to meet their expectations.

My friend was very distrusting of people. She would question the motives of people until she got to know them. When you don’t trust people’s intentions, this can be a problem. Once blues trust you, you’re pretty much at ease with them. She would assign people specific jobs with projects and would question why she gave that job to a particular person when others were more qualified. They often second guess their decisions. She would watch to see if people kept their word, and if they didn’t, they were on her do not trust list. This was in her personal and business relationships. She was very strict about this.

Unhealthy blues can be a big problem

Blues loved to be admired by others; in fact, they are the most admired out of all the colors. Why? They are admired because of their loyalty, honesty, being trusted, caring, and sincerity. Heck, what’s not to like about that, right? There are pros and cons to blues wanting to be admired. You can overdo being admired by others. You might think that an unhealthy blue would be considered self-centered by wanting to be noticed or admired.

Blues can be very emotional and moody at times and in an unhealthy way. The unhealthy Blue can be unforgiving and extremely sensitive. It seemed at times that my friend seemed to hold grudges and not let go of some of the pain that people caused her in the past. I tried to understand her reasoning behind her actions. She’d get upset at little things that normally you or I would just not give it a second thought! Of all the colors, blue’s deal with more depression than the reds, yellows, and whites. Blues will give more energy than any other color personality in a relationship, but they also forgive the least. My friend could recall those people who hurt her feelings in High School. She remembered their names and almost the dates and times anything terrible that happened to her she remembered.

Next week, we will continue the series on the colorcode.

Unexplained Behaviors Explained? (5) By Dr. Michael Brooks

Unexplained Behaviors Explained? (5) By Dr. Michael Brooks

This week we will talk about the colorcode and the color blue. The Blue’s personality is considered kind, good-hearted people. They love relationships and helping others. They connect well with all the other colors. They remember birthdays, anniversary’s, special days, and they don’t forget anything if they have a relationship with you. Life for a blue is all about relationships. They are the saints of all the colors. Blues are the most appreciated and admired of the four colors, and soon you’ll see why!

I have a friend of mine that is a solid blue, she is articulate and considerate of others, plans things to the extreme detail, and honestly, people just love being around her. She makes you feel special. A while back, I had a bad cold, and when she found out about it, she hurried over and brought over homemade soup, 7-up, and cold medicine. She stayed and made sure I was taking the cold medicine and eating her soup. These are the things blues just do, they want to help you in any way they can. Blues are committed and very loyal to a relationship. A friendship with a blue usually means a lifetime friendship, through the good times and the bad. They love connection and value relationships. My friend is very dependable, if she said she was going to be at a meeting, she was always on time or extra early. In my book, blues are the do-gooders in life. You want them in your life because they are considerate and healthy for a good relationship.

Healthy blues are very easy to get a long with!

The blues have their strengths and weaknesses, and I want to go over them with you. We have covered a few of the Blue’s strengths, and I want to continue with their strengths.

Once you meet a blue or realize that you have a blue in your life, you are indeed blessed with a wonderful friend, relative, or business associate. Blues offer something that every relationship needs, and that’s loyalty. If you ever need a friend that you can call 24/7 and go to battle for you, that’s a blue trait. Blues will listen to you with an open heart and share their heart with care and concern. They listen well and will share their concerns for your emotional needs, blues love with passion. If you’re married to a blue or are in a committed relationship with one, lookout, they will make your relationship a top priority. Blues have their complicated side too, and we will go over that next week.

Unexplained Behaviors Explained? (4) By Dr. Michael Brooks

Unexplained Behaviors Explained? (4) By Dr. Michael Brooks

Here are the limitations of an unhealthy red: They are difficult to live and work with unless they get their own way. They will argue at the drop of a hat. They always consider themselves number #1. They can be insensitive and arrogant, creating distance and distrust. Intimacy is their least developed skill, fault finding seems essential for reds, tactless, and stubborn tends to frustrate others, generally seeks to serve self, highly verbal individual. Guilty of denial (who me). Always processing a new thought (loves to throw out questions, but is not searching for answers.) Demanding and critical of others. Seeks power to control others, dislikes being told what to do. Poor listener,  Gives priority to work over personal relationships, demanding and arrogant, primarily concerned with self-gratification, promotes turmoil and conflict when a personal goal is to be gained. How many people do you know that have most of these unhealthy red traits?

Healthy Reds also have incredible strengths as well. They are the lifeblood of humanity, and they can be movers and shakers of society, an asset to any organization, they excel with logical thinking, natural leader, committed to a productive lifestyle, direct and honest with opinions, loyal to the relationship, promotes group activities, highly task-oriented and efficient, rational thinkers and assertive communicators, natural goal-setter and completes tasks, highly protective of companion. They model leadership skills that others want to emulate, value productivity, and are highly successful people. These are just a few of the good healthy Red traits.

I have clients who are married to a healthy red, and they have a great marriage. Reds can be so positive and encouraging to their partners.

Unexplained Behaviors Explained? (3)  By Dr. Michael Brooks

This week, I want to break down the four personalities (in colors) for you, so we have a foundation to work with. The other three color personalities summarized in colors are Blue, Yellow, and White. The Red personality is based on power. There are healthy and unhealthy traits to those that are considered Red. Here are a few of Red’s complex personality traits.

  • They are extremely active and highly productive
  • They are visionaries
  • They can be insensitive and selfish
  • They can be demanding and critical
  • Insecure
  • Must be right all the time
  • Competitive and bold
  • Tenacious and taxing
  • Assertive and determined
  • Disagreeable
  • Resourceful and self-reliant
  • Relentless and impatient
  • Calculating and manipulative
  • Lacks intimacy in a relationship

Do you know of anyone who has these traits, maybe you, a friend, a co-worker, even a family member? Wouldn’t you like to figure out how to live, or work, with the person who may be a red Colorcode personality? I’m sure you would. My goal is to get you to see how Reds think, what makes them act the way they do, and why!

Reds can be easily angered and more often it’s the unhealthy Reds who have road-rage.

Reds have a way of making things happen in the business world. They are power wielders, they live on facts and figures. You need to present issues logically to them. When speaking with a red, you should be direct, brief, and specific. When speaking with a red, articulate your feelings clearly, don’t beat around the bush. Support their leadership instincts and correct decisions. If you learn how to work with them, life will be so much easier for you.

Reds are the most difficult to work with and live without of all the colors. I have many of my clients who are married to a red personality, and many of the marriages have ended in divorce. The unhealthy red personalities lack real communication and often try to browbeat spouses into submission by personal attacks on a spouse’s character. The guilt an unhealthy red uses on partners, family members, and co-workers can be unrelenting at times.

The Colorcode designed by Taylor Hartman is Unlike other personality tests, The Color Code not only identifies what you do but why you do it, allowing you to gain much deeper and more useful insights into what makes you and those around you tick. Each of the four colors: Red (power), Blue (intimacy), Yellow (fun), and White (peace), stands for a collection of traits, strengths, and limitations. You can have one dominant color with traces of the three other colors in your colorcode personality. Unexplained Behaviors Explained? (2) By Dr. Michael Brooks

Unexplained Behaviors Explained? (2)  By Dr. Michael Brooks

Have you ever wondered why someone, maybe a family member, a friend, even a co-worker, treats you so badly?  I certainly have, their behavior puzzles me and leaves me wondering why are some of these people so angry, defensive, mad, while other people we know are joking around when something just serious just happened. Then you have those who are so sensitive and serious, while others will not argue or fight and will avoid conflicts with you at all costs.

Hopefully, this article will make you want to do something about the people who make you feel miserable, worthless, and not valued. How would you like to know the hidden secrets in dealing with these people and having a good relationship with them? It can happen; you just have to learn what people’s motives are, what drives them to do the things they do. In my Counseling and coaching practice, I see many people struggling with relationships and, more often than not, are frustrated, tired, and just want to understand why people act the way they do.

I have a cousin of mine that I’ve known for several years. He’s had his quirks that I didn’t understand these past several years, and now I see them as his issues and not mine. What I do see is the insensitive ways he reacts to others who struggle with emotional pain. It seems like he doesn’t care what others are going through and gives harsh advice, and is very critical. I know him well, and he does have a good heart. People who know him would probably say that he always has to be right and will argue and will not back down. I’ve seen him manipulate others to get his way. He is always in control, never realizing his control cripples others, and they avoid him at all costs. I could detail this type of personality, and I will later on in this article.

The Colorcode designed by Taylor Hartman is Unlike other personality tests, The Color Code not only identifies what you do but why you do it, allowing you to gain much deeper and more useful insights into what makes you and those around you tick. Each of the four colors: Red, Blue, Yellow, and White, stands for a collection of traits, strengths, and limitations. You can have one dominant color with traces of the three other colors in your colorcode personality. If you would like to take the free colorcode test and see what your primary color is, you can do so by going to colorcode.com click on the free test; once you take it, read what color your primary color is. The book is “The People Code” by Taylor Hartman, a great read and really gets into how the colors interact with each other. I highly recommend that you get this book.

Unexplained Behaviors Explained? (1) By Dr. Michael Brooks

Unexplained Behaviors Explained? (1)  By Dr. Michael Brooks

June 1994 Denton, Texas. My Saturday morning started hot and sunny in the great state of Texas. That afternoon I was working at a men’s event at North Texas State University stadium. I had just met with Tom Landry, former head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, for a few minutes in one of the stadium offices. Looking back, I have to say life was good, exciting, and I had many aspirations of an exciting future ahead of me. Little did I know that my life would change forever in just a matter of minutes. After my meeting with coach Landry, I was asked to go outside and look at the incoming storm that suddenly appeared on the horizon. The clouds were dark green and ugly black. This was going to be a Texas storm that would change my life and many others forever.

This storm hit with all its fury with large hail, lightning, high winds, while men ran for their lives throughout the stadium. The stage was full of musicians, the band, and motivational speakers just before the storm hit. I saw them running for cover too.

I was asked by one of the men in leadership to get the men under the stadium as quickly as possible, where at least it offered some protection from the hail and lightning. The mass confusion from the storm with the hail hitting people and lightning flashing everywhere scared people; they had no clue where to go. I yelled as loud as I could at the mass of men, “GET BACK UNDER THE STADIUM.” Many heard me and headed to the safe area to wait out the storm. I felt that I was blessed to get out alive; it was that bad of a storm.

I look back and wonder how many men listened to me while in panic? How many decided to do their own thing and could have been seriously injured or even hit by lightning and killed? I saw good people helping others, and I saw people who were angry about being told what to do. Honestly, I’m the kind of guy who rather carry out orders than give them. In meetings later that week, following the “storm from hell” incident, you could see the power brokers at work. They demanded that they be heard and why things went haywire and blamed others for what happened. I learned a lot about myself after this happened, and you will see why the colorcode reveals people’s actions and motives before and after the fact. I watch people in a different light now as a counselor and coach. The colorcode will help you to see people differently as well. I saw people at the meetings that were angry (Red) at others. Some used their humor and wanted to be funny (yellow), then you had those who avoided conflict and didn’t want to argue (white) and those who blamed themselves for what happened (blue). You will learn how the colorcode can help you with the other colors and how to deal with different kinds of people.
